Brock Lesnar, who has recovered from diverticulitis that was caused by, he claims, an all-protein diet, in the Vancouver Sun: “I’m a carnivore. I’m not a big fan of PETA. I’m a member of the NRA and whatever I kill, I eat. And basically I was just, for years, surviving on meat and potatoes, and when the greens came by, I just kept passing them.” –Twin Cities.com

Marisa Miller

Posted by The D On January - 20 - 2010

Marisa Miller has not been fired by Victoria’s Secret despite reports suggesting otherwise — and judging by the photos we meticulously picked out of the jaw-dropping model, we know why.

Marisa Miller Still a Victoria's Secret Model
The Chief Marketing Officer for Limited Brands — which owns V.S. — tells TMZ the report about Marisa’s departure “is unfounded and untrue” and said “we adore Marisa and we will continue to work with her in the future.”

Miller’s rep Nicole Perez also called the report “completely false” … oh just look through the gallery already.

NBA Trade Rumors

Posted by The D On January - 20 - 2010

The trade rumors swirling around Nate Robinson had appeared to calm down in recent weeks, but Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports has reported today during an interview with Tanguay and Zolak on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, that he has knowledge that the C’s have made an offer to the Knicks for the ever controversial guard Nate Robinson.

Speculation has been in place since the end of last December that the Knicks were looking to trade the disgruntled guard. After being benched for a month, Robinson has been worked back into the rotation in New York though, returning with a bang after a 42 point effort in Atlanta on New Year’s Day. The Knicks have continued to play fairly well since Robinson’s return to the lineup going 5-4 over that time span, while remaining just 2 games out of the 8 spot in the Eastern Conference.

With Mike D’Antoni pining to win now, and Robinson’s offensive contributions off the bench continuing to be a positive for an improved Knicks team, (16 points, 3 boards and 3 assists a game with 50 percent shooting during the past month) it’s evident that New York will no longer be willing to just give Robinson away unless they are able to send Jared Jeffries over with him.

With Robinson’s stock on the rise, the question is just how much the C’s would be willing to give up for him. CH’s Zach Lowe thoroughly analyzed a potential Robinson acquisition last month for the C’s. I strongly encourage you to check that out.

Spears did not specify when an offer was made, or what the exact offer was, but I think it is big news that the C’s have kicked the tires on a move. Given the team’s recent injury problems and lack of consistent scoring off the bench, instant offense in this backcourt is a need right now for the C’s.

Spears did seem to institute that a 1st round draft pick was….or will have to be part of any offer for Robinson from the C’s to make any kind of move worth the Knicks while. My question for Celtics fans is would you be willing to deal that pick for Robinson, along with an potentially useful expiring contract (TA, Eddie, etc.) for Robinson.

Given the team’s dire cap situation next year, I’m not sure I would as low cost youngsters are going to be needed on this squad. We’ve seen Doc use these kind of guys (Big Baby, Leon Powe) and not (Giddens, Walker) recently so it’s an interesting conundrum to dissect. Do they go for it all this year and trade that pick for Robinson or someone else? Or do they keep it in hopes of bringing in a cheap key contributor next year?

And while I am not in favor of this kind of deal, I am happy to see Danny is looking into making some moves. This team needs a jumpstart right now, and while we haven’t seen a fully healthy squad yet, counting on having one once KG and Marquis returns does not appear to be a situation Danny Ainge can or should count on.(hoopshype.com)

Pacquiao Vs. Clottey

Posted by The D On January - 20 - 2010

manny-p -thumb
The mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is officially dead, as promoter Bob Arum announced Tuesday (January 19) that the Filipino superstar will now face Joshua Clottey on March 13th at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

After Pac-Man and Money Mayweather failed to agree to terms over pre-fight drug-testing procedures, promoters for both fighters said they would stick with their plans for a March 13 bout against different opponents. However, it looks like it’s just gonna be Pacquiao on March 13th, as Mayweather began negotiations to fight Shane Mosley in May.

Now, it’s a welterweight title fight, simply dubbed “The Event,” where Pac-Man faces the #1 challenger Joshua Clottey, who says he thankful the boxing superstar gave him a shot.

“He is the best guy, and I want to thank him for giving me this opportunity,” said Clottey.

Pacquiao has been undefeated in his last 11 fights. His last loss came in 2005 against Erik Morales, who he came back and beat two times after.

Clottey is a 32-year-old a native of Ghana, who has a record of 35-3. He lost his last fight by split decision to Miguel Cotto in June.

Tickets for the fight range from $700 at ringside down to $50. Arum says they plna to sell 40,000 seats, but can seat up to 60,000 if necessary. The fight will also be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View.(BallerStatus.com)

‘Jersey’ Knockout Victim

Posted by The D On January - 20 - 2010

The guy who Ronnie knocked out cold in last week’s episode of “Jersey Shore” claims he got sucker punched in the back of the head — and now the guy says he wants a rematch with his new nemesis.

Jersey Shore Ronnie

Stephen Izzo tells TMZ he was trying to fight MTV security after they broke up his group’s expletive-filled tussle with the “Jersey” cast — when Ronnie came out of nowhere and delivered a haymaker to the back of his head. Izzo says the cuts on his face were caused by his sudden headfirst fall into the unforgiving brick ground below.

Izzo now wants a rematch with Ronnie … and this time he wants it to be a fair fight.

BTW: Ronnie was arrested after the knockout, and Izzo says he’s gonna show up for Ronnie’s court appearance in a couple of weeks.

Nike Launches Without Tiger

Posted by The D On January - 19 - 2010

Nike Inc. will launch new golf clubs this month without the promotional muscle of golfing great Tiger Woods. That will be a challenge for the sporting-goods giant, which was largely a nonentity in golf before it built a sizable business around the superstar’s image. Nike says that its Victory Red STR8-FIT Tour fairway woods, which will go on sale Jan. 28 for $299, were designed with input from all 13 U.S. golf stars who promote Nike’s golf products. But the promotional materials make no mention of Mr. Woods, whose tradition of wearing red shirts on the final day of golf tournaments inspired the Victory Red name. Instead, the materials trumpet that the clubs were tested in tournament play by a respected but lesser-known golf pro, Lucas Glover, who claimed his first major victory last year when he won the U.S. Open Championship. Nike’s inability to bank on Mr. Woods — who remains a Nike-sponsored athlete but is postponing his career as he deals with the fallout from his alleged extramarital affairs — comes at a problematic time. The Beaverton, Ore., company has faced deteriorating golf sales because of the recession. Annual revenue at the Nike Golf division fell 11% last year to $648 million after peaking at $725 million the year before. –Wall Street Journal
