War Machine Sentenced

Posted by The D On August - 25 - 2010

Ex- UFC fighter War Machine was sentenced to 1 year in jail and 3 years of probation.

War Machine, had pled guilty to two charges of assault by means of a deadly weapon after a bar brawl in San Diego earlier this year.

The judge also banned War from drinking alcohol during his probation — or going into any establishments where “alcohol is the main focus.”

Hopefully this will give him sometime to put his life in perspective. The guy has talent, just needs to make better decisions!

105 Point Game

Posted by The D On August - 11 - 2010

corey fisher-thumbIn an era of cell phone cameras, YouTube clips and more cable sports networks than you could ever watch, it’s virtually impossible for any significant athletic performance to go undocumented.

Amazingly enough, however, video proof of Corey Fisher’s shooting barrage in a New York City summer league game on Saturday night still hasn’t surfaced.

Word that the Villanova guard scored 105 points in a game at the Watson Basketball Classic first circulated via Twitter over the weekend. As the days passed without video evidence, confirmation from Fisher or even a reliable box score, the story has taken on an urban legend-like quality.

One report suggested Fisher scored 72 points in the second half. Another said he hit 23 of 28 3-pointers. There were even initially accounts that the man defending Fisher was Toronto Raptors guard Jose Calderon, though those appear to be false.

Use Roids Start Over?

Posted by The D On August - 5 - 2010

barry-bonds
Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemons, A-Rod and the list goes on. All Baseball players that get caught or admit that they used steroids should have all their accomplishments taken away from them.

Its cheating and against the rules. If the MLB commissioner said it’s ok to use roids and they don’t care, then fine. Let whoever wants to take it and try to hit 100 home runs in a season. But it’s illegal!!

So why are we counting Barry Bonds as the top HR leader, why is Mark McGwire in the top 5 for most homeruns in a season. Take away some of Roger Clemson wins and awards if he was on the juice.

The truth is, if you get caught your name looks bad but if you admit to it and say you’re sorry and keep playing, most people tend to over look it. Now if it starts to affect the player and their stats a little more maybe they would think twice. Instead of A-rod hitting his 600th hr they only gave him 200. Go back and maybe bonds only gets a few hundred or none at all.

Should the MLB make players give up there stats and start over if they are caught using roids?

Roger Huerta Street Fight

Posted by The D On August - 4 - 2010

TMZ has obtained footage of former UFC superstar Roger Huerta engaging in a bloody street fight in Austin, Texas this weekend — against a man who appears to have socked a woman in the head.rogerh in fight

27-year-old Huerta — who was once featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated — was in front of a bar in Austin around 2 AM on Saturday morning … when some other people began fighting. Roger was near the scuffle … when he saw one of the men involved punch a female who was standing near the ruckus.

Once Huerta sees the woman collapse to the ground — he instantly tries to confront the attacker saying, “You just punched a f**kin’ girl.”

Moments later, Huerta takes off his shirt … slams his hat to the ground … and rushes after the man.

Chaos ensues and people scramble after the fighters, blocking the camera — but seconds later … a shirtless Huerta can be seen finishing his attack on the other man … who is sprawled out on the street.

People rush in to aid the bloody man on the ground — who eventually gets off the pavement — as Huerta walks away from the battle ground.

Austin PD tells TMZ that officers were called to the scene — but so far, no arrests have been made.

Huerta’s manager tells us, “I have not spoken to Roger yet about this incident, but I can say that it’s in his nature to be very protective of women.”

Youngest To 600HRs

Posted by The D On August - 4 - 2010

alex rodAlex Rodriguez became the youngest player to hit 600 home runs Wednesday, exactly three years to the day after his 500th homer

A-Rod joins an elite club that includes Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714), Willie Mays (660), Ken Griffey Jr. (630) and Sammy Sosa (609).

The pursuit of the home run record gets lucrative now. As part of his $275 million, 10-year deal signed after opting out of his contract during the 2007 World Series, Rodriguez can earn up to $30 million more for six milestone homers. The first would be tying Willie Mays. He’d get $6 million more each time for matching Ruth, Aaron and Bonds and breaking the record.

Rodriguez hit No. 100 in August 1998 with Seattle, No. 200 in May 2001 and No. 300 in April 2003 with Texas. His 400th home run came on June 8, 2005, against Milwaukee during his second season with the Yankees.

The guys used roids but admitted it. So if he ever does catch Bonds is it the same since he cheated also??

Thank’s Akron

Posted by The D On August - 3 - 2010

lebronwadebosh-displayLeBron James has extended an olive branch to his Ohio hometown in the form of a full-page newspaper ad, days before making his first public appearance in Akron since leaving for the Miami Heat.

“Akron is my home, and the central focus of my life,” James wrote in Tuesday’s Akron Beacon Journal. “It’s where I started, and it’s where I will always come back to.”

Conspicuously absent from the ad is any mention of Cleveland, home of the Cavaliers, the team that James famously dumped in a much-maligned ESPN television special last month. The ad features photographs of James at his annual charity bike-a-thon, where he hands out hundreds of bicycles and joins a mile-long ride through downtown Akron. Despite speculation that James might skip the event, he has said he plans to show up on Saturday.

The traditional eight-mile trek that follows the ride has been canceled this year.

“It was here where I first learned how to play basketball, and where I met the people who would become my lifelong friends and mentors,” James wrote in the ad. “Their guidance, encouragement and support will always be with me.”
